  • Pueblo, Colorado
  • 50th Anniversary Party

Mike Archuleta, who has known Charles for a number of years through Charles' work with PEER 1, asked him to go to Pueblo and entertain Tony and Linda (His Parents-in-Law) as they celebrated 50 years of marriage.  The event, held at the American Legion Hall was a surprise to all but a few of Mike's closest friends.  Charles performed a modified version of his hour-long anniversary show, which included such songs as "Young & Beautiful", "Love Me" and of course "Love Me Tender."   For Charles, the most proud moment was when his son, Chaz, took over the controls of the soundboard and handled it like a true pro, perfecting levels and making sure it wasn't too loud.  PICTURES COMING SOON

  • Holiday Inn Northglenn, 1-25 and 120th
  • Westminster, Colorado

A room filled with beautiful ladies and not one man to be seen, except on stage.  This is the kind of show every Elvi looks forward to!  Despite a vehicular mishap earlier in the day that left a nasty gash on Charles' forehead, Charles went on and performed the planned 45-minute show, and didn't hold back.  His trademark energy and charisma weren't lessened one bit, even as ladies were wiping more than just sweat off of his brow.  Tri-State G&T (A gas and energy company) were wonderful clients, and designed an incredible poster for the event.  Charles was a bit humbled and flattered by 3-foot by 2-foot poster in the lobby, and was determined to give them a good show regardless of any possible distractions.  Charles left the show and went directly to the hospital to have his wound checked, and was told he would need 4 stitches.  The only problem? They would have to shave the area in order to administer the stitches.  Not out of vanity, but more due to the fact that he had other Elvis shows upcoming, Charles chose instead to have a number of butterfly bandages put on it.  Within a few days, the bandages were gone, and now Charles' scar is not very noticeable.

MARCH 25th, 2004

  • THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN ELVIS SHOWCASE

Paul Torrez was once again the headliner.  But with only Charles and Paul Present, it was almost a Paul-and-Charles Show.  Once again, someone had torn apart the DJ Booth before our arrival, and Charles was running around trying to get microphones, wires, tables, and everything set up before the show.  Our waitress that night became an instant ETA fan!  After the show, she approached Charles and told him how she had been an Elvis fan for most of her life, yet had never seen an ETA show in person.  She is now hooked!  She was dazzled by both Charles and Paul's performances and looks forward to serving at more shows in the future.

MARCH 13th, 2004

  • BEAVER CREEK, COLORADO

Okay, we forgot who the client was (We'll find out), but at the Ritz Carlton in Beaver Creek, a large firm had a "through the decades" theme and Charles was called upon to perform as "John Revolting" for the 70's disco room.  Other rooms included a sixties psychedelic room and an "English Invasion" room.  Other characters at the event included Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Cher, Twiggy, Andy Warhol, and a breakdancing artist.  Of all the separate venues, Charles was proud that he constantly had his 70's room packed with people and high energy!!

As it turned out, this was one of the last public performances for the night's headliner legendary artist Denny Dent, as he passed away March 29th of a heart attack.  Charles felt privileged to have seen this "two fisted" artisan at work.  The last painting he made that night was of Jimi Hendrix, which he painted with the canvas upside down, righting it only after the work was nearly completed.

For those unfamiliar with the genius of Denny Dent, he would paint incredible portraits (That night they included Elton John, and Billy Joel as well as Mick Jagger) in a manner of minutes while listening to blasting music of the singer he was painting.  His strokes were applied with mostly splatters and the three brushes he held in each hand.

Truly an exciting and charismatic entertainer as well as artist, he will be sorely missed by any who ever saw him perform.

MORE PAST (FEB/MAR/APR) SHOW LISTINGS COMING SOON.

JANUARY 29th, 2004

  • The Rocky Mountain Elvis Showcase.
  • The inaugural night was fantastic, typical "opening night" glitches aside.  Once the sound system was powered up, and a bartender arrived, the night went better than expected.  Paul Torrez opened the evening with a 6-song jumpsuit set.  As usual, Paul's voice was right on and his moves were pure Vegas Elvis.  After Paul, Casey Hammil gave a stirring 6-song set of movie songs and gospel.  Casey's voice is always a treat to hear, and this night was no different.  Charles King finished the night as the evening's headliner with a split set (first half in the 68' Gospel suit, second half in the fringe jumpsuit.)  Leading into his rendition of "My Way" Charles asked the audience to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of Bob Wall - personal friend and founder of the old "Colorado Graceland" fan club - who passed away last week in a car accident.  Charles' greatest fear going into the night was that the crowd wouldn't be large enough to convince The Paladium owners to continue the events on a monthly basis.  However, at the end of the night, the Paladium agreed to host the monthly event on the LAST THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH.
  • Charles King created and organized this public performance of Elvis entertainers in the Rocky Mountain Region.  Hosted by the Paladium at 63rd and Pecos, it will be a monthly gathering of Elvis Tribute Artists, Elvis Fans and friends in a classy non-bar-like environment.  The venue is intimate and cozy, with a capacity of between 200 and 300 guests.  Although a full-service bar is available, families and children of all ages are encouraged to attend.  Every event will consist of a karaoke period in which Elvis Entertainers can perform to their own background tracks, followed by a one-hour show performed by a Headlining Elvis Tribute Artist. The Headliner for the next month's gathering is chosen by a vote of the attending audience.

JANUARY 22nd, 2004

  • Littleton High School
  • "An Afternoon with Elvis"
  • As part of Littleton H.S.'s music appreciation course, Elvis Presley was the subject of study and conversation for the entire class on January 22nd.  Charles was invited to attend and provide insight as only an "Elvis Expert" can.  Charles related his experiences and conversations with members of the Jordanaires, staying on the grounds at Graceland, meeting individuals close to Elvis, and his 14-year tenure as an Elvis Tribute Artist.  Although (as is to be expected considering the age group) the students were at first reticent to get involved, by the end of the class, they were eagerly participating and regretting the end of the session.

JANUARY 9th, 2004

The Drawbridge Inn, Ft. Wayne KY

Charles was once again invited to perform in the Cincinnati metro area by fellow Elvis Tribute Artist Steve Chuke.  Unlike previous performances in the Ohio/Kentucky region, this time Steve and Charles shared top billing, with no supporting entertainers.  To much applause and excitement, Charles entered in 10-foot-tall fashion, singing the remade version of "A Little Less Conversation."  He then left to change out of his larger-than-life self and returned in the '68 Gospel Red Suit for his first set.

The songs sung were:

  • I Got a Woman
  • Gospel Medley - '68 Comeback Special
  • Heartbreak Hotel
  • Love Me Tender
  • Don't Be Cruel
  • Little Sister
  • Jailhouse Rock

Steve Chuke then returned for a set of classic oldies including Wilson Picket songs,  Orbison songs and others

Charles Returned in the Fringe Jumpsuit for his Las Vegas Finale.  Songs included:

  • Mystery Train / Tiger Man
  • Proud Mary
  • Steamroller Blues
  • Don't Cry Daddy
  • Kentucky Rain
  • Bridge Over Troubled Water
  • My Boy
  • Walk A Mile In My Shoes
  • Polk Salad Annie

Charles performed other songs at the show as well.  He was immediately invited back for the August 29th, 2004 show at Moonlight Gardens / Coney Island... which of course, he accepted.
